Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan was arrested at his home by Pakistani police on Saturday after a court handed him a three-year jail sentence for asset concealment.
The court found him guilty of illegally selling state gifts. This arrest comes just days before the government is expected to dissolve parliament and pave the way for a general election later this year. Khan was likely to run in that election, but Saturday’s court ruling — which can still be appealed — also bans him from running for office for five years, according to Pakistani media outlets. Khan has denied the accusations against him.
