In a recent plea for immediate climate action, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres declared Earth to be in an "era of global boiling" as the planet experiences record-breaking temperatures in July. A blistering heatwave is sweeping across the northern hemisphere, fueling devastating wildfires in Greece, Italy, Algeria, and other parts of the Mediterranean.

Guterres emphasizes the severity of the crisis, urging leaders to end fossil fuel dependence and commit to carbon neutrality by 2040 for developed nations and 2050 for emerging economies. The effects of climate change have exceeded scientists' predictions, leading to catastrophic impacts, including water shortages, extreme weather events, and heat-related illnesses.

With July on track to become the hottest month ever recorded, global temperatures are shattering previous records, making the "era of global warming" a thing of the past. Humanity must act swiftly to avoid the worst consequences of climate change, turning this year of extreme heat into a year of ambitious climate action.
