The popular app Threads, which had a record-breaking launch, has been losing its popularity lately. Mark Zuckerberg, the rival of Elon Musk, recently shared his thoughts on Threads and Meta's future plans during an earnings conference call.
Zuckerberg acknowledged that there is still a lot of work to be done on Threads, including building and experimenting with features that users like. He emphasized the importance of retaining users' interest and expressed confidence that they will eventually achieve this goal. However, he also mentioned that monetization will be a consideration only after reaching a user base of hundreds of millions.
Elon Musk, who bought Twitter last year, made significant changes to the platform, leading some users to look for alternatives. Meta seized this opportunity to create Threads, which quickly gained over 100 million users within a week of launch, breaking records for a social media app.
Despite recent signs of declining user engagement, Meta is committed to improving Threads with regular updates and new features. Zuckerberg admitted that building standalone apps has been a challenge for Meta in the past, but he sees this as a rare and unexpected opportunity to succeed, possibly triggered by Musk's interference with Twitter.
Zuckerberg expressed optimism about the future of Threads and the chance to work on this project. He highlighted that no social media app has yet reached one billion users, but he sees the potential for Threads to achieve that milestone. Nonetheless, he acknowledged that there is still a long way to go in this endeavor.
